The death metal masters from Poland have returned.  After the devastatingly brutal(!) Litany, I knew I had found a new favorite band.  Not wanting to be pigeon-holed with playing the same type of music as others in the field, Vader have set out on their own path.  Vader are your typical death metal band in a non-typical way.  You can tell right away that these guys are not a Cannibal Corpse clone.  Not content to play chugga-chugga riffs with guttural vocals, Vader adds a touch of melody and dynamics to the mix.  They are an oddity in the metal world.

Song Notes:

  1. Epitaph - Leads seam squeaky and out of place.  Riffs are thick and juicy.  The drumming is top notch.  B
  2. The Nomad - Much better than Epitaph.  More straight forward.  The only things holding this track back are the slow parts, which sound like they don’t belong, and the lead guitar which sounds buried in the mix.  B
  3. Wolftribe - My favorite track.  The intensity never lets up.  The hit-hat work is particularly impressive.  A-
  4. Whisper - Nothing particularly impressive stands out in this track.  C
  5. When Darkness Calls - So-so until the verse kicks in.  Then the song picks up.  B
  6. Torch of War - Stays heavy until the riff change.  After that point the song suffers to get back to the original point.  C
  7. The Code - Slow opening.  The verse is almost “bouncy”.  Great stuff.  B+
  8. Lukewarm Race - Similar to Wolftribe.  Another top notch song.  B+
  9. Revelations of Black Moses - Slower, especially the verse.  The bridge (for lack of a better word) is the best part of the song.  A-
  10. Reign Forever World (bonus track) - Slower, almost crunchy.  Doc’s drumming skills are very apparent on this track.  B
  11. Frozen Paths (bonus track) -This song suffers from not being long enough.  As soon as the song gets going it ends.  B
  12. Privilege of the Gods (bonus track) - Wolftribe lite.  All the elements are there for a great song, it just never comes to pass.  C

Average Song Rating:  C+
Overall Album Rating:
B
