The most eminent self-proclaimed "deathpunk" act from Norway is back after vocalist Hank Von Helvete took a small vacation to kick the heroin habit.  All the Turbojugends will be happy to hear that not much has changed with Turbonergro's attitude.  They're still gay (or so they claim), they're still offensive, and they still put out some quality punk laced with metal and rock...but one can't help but wonder if Scandinavian Leather was released as an album to go commercial.

As a reunion album, a follow-up to Ass Cobra or Apocalypse Dudes is out of the question, but this just feels a little uninspired.  Hank's vocals are just as powerful, the guitars and bass work great together (even if they do steal a few riffs...even from themselves), the drums are spot on precise, and the inclusion of other instruments usually add more to the song.  There are some gems, but there also appears to be a high amount of mid-tempo filler that does not hold a candle to their earlier material.  It makes the release just seem...average.  Hopefully this is not the new a direction for Turbonegro, so this can only be recommended to Turbonegro fans.  People interested but unfamiliar with their material, your money will be better spent with either Ass Cobra or Apocalypse Dudes.

Song Notes:

  1. The Blizzard Of Flames - Lackluster poppy little intro with some spoken word.  F
  2. Wipe It 'Til It Bleeds - Very annoying chorus and the slow part just plain sucks, but not too bad otherwise and actually has some great bass sound.  B-
  3. Gimme Some - Ramones vs. Hellacopters.  Very catchy material.  A
  4. Turbonegro Must Be Destroyed - Great musical support for stupid lyrics, but one would expect more out of those drum fills.  C
  5. Sell your Body (To The Night) - The beginning vocals are terribly annoying.  Slower pace with slight Judas Priest feel to it.  D+
  6. Remain Untamed - The more simple approach is very nice, and this has some impressive guitar work.  B
  7. Train Of Flesh - Great metal/punk mix.  Bass is incredible, but the song is too short.  B+
  8. Fuck The World (F.T.W.) - Atmospheric intro does not fit at all.  This song is good proof that a song does not need to be fast to sound strong.  B-
  9. Locked Down - Really cool upbeat song, and the saxophone is a nice touch.  A-
  10. I Want Everything - Good beat and the piano fits in well, but it's just too repetitious.  B-
  11. Drenched In Blood (D.I.B.) - Chorus is terrible.  Has a "Happy Days" feel to it, and basically this song belongs on MTV.  D+
  12. Le Saboteur - All lyrics in French, solid punk sound regardless.  B-
  13. Ride With Us - Vocal effects annoying as usual, but it has some good riffs.  This song could use many things, but that flute sound is not one of them.  C-
