Scoot's Review:
The story behind this release is that SFD played a show on July 16
(AS220, Providence RI) to celebrate the release of their debut 7", but the record got held up and wasn't completed in time for the show.
So they pressed up a few dozen CD-R's and gave them out as teasers instead;
a smart tactic, especially when you put the kind of effort into it that SFD apparently did.
"Could This Be Death?" and "STAYDEAD" are
from their upcoming (should be out by the time you read this) EP. Reminds me of
Fugazi merged with an early '90s Amphetamine Reptile sound, with gruff, barked vocals reminiscent of
Negative Approach. Fairly complex for hardcore, lots of changes, overlapping textures,
and shifting tempos. The production on these tracks is really excellent, you can hear every instrument clear as a bell.
The added nuances really make SFD seem more interesting than when I saw them
live, where frankly I found them to be kind of mediocre. As an appetizer, this demo did exactly what it should
have -- whet my appetite for the full fledged 7". |
