The Scrapers - Kenosha |
Horatio's Review: From the musical hotbed that is Peoria, Illinois comes new four piece, The Scrapers, and their first recordings as a four piece. This may seem like unlikely material for Horatio to be reviewing, but some geezer I work with is friend of the drummer so I promised the lad I'd give this a shot. For starters this is better than Further Lo, so they're off to a shining start. As this is the band's first demo, the production is crude and incomplete, but the basic vibe is there. 'I Want To Kill You' falls halfway between nu metal and hard rock, with vocalist Johnny O barely able to get his screams out as he tries to imitate fifty vocalists in one song. The drums are rather dominating and there's something about the line 'I want to kill you but I'm afraid to' that makes me grimace. 'Kenosha' is an ode to some dive town in Wisconsin apparently, and the direction here is more agreeable than the previous track, the song opening like some poorly produced NWOBHM from 1981. It's basic heavy metal, with instant melody and far better than I expected. All the band need to do now is change their name to 'Hard Dog' or 'Battalion' and they're ready to go. Anyone interested in hearing this drop me a line. Horatio's Rating: D |
