Horatio's Review:
My taste for Saxon has waned heavily since 'Metalhead', but I think a lot of it had to do with the overall staleness of their music.  'Denim And Leather', while an undeniable metal classic, had a lot to do with that, the overplayed likes of 'Princess Of The Night', 'And The Bands Played On' and the title track the main culprits.  Stale or not, this reinforced Saxon as a NWOBHM contender, proving 'Wheels Of Steel' and 'Strong Arm Of The Law' weren't flukes.  Some of Saxon's best work is on display here, including 'Rough And Ready', a ferocious slice of biker boogie mayhem, as well as the pumping anthems that are 'Never Surrender' and 'Fire In The Sky'.  'Play It Loud' tops AC/DC in '81 for riff heavy hard rock, while 'Out Of Control' and 'Midnight Rider' are equally as inspired.  Saxon may have been more advanced than Maiden in '81, this album every bit the landmark that 'Number Of The Beast' became, if not more.  Give me Biff any day.
