Overkill - The Killing Kind Website: www.wreckingcrew.com |
Shevy's Review: Talk
about a forgotten gem. This is Overkill's eighth release
which introduces the guitarist team of Sebastian Marino and Joe Comeau
(who also shined in the equally destructive "From The Underground
And Below" and well as the fairly lackluster but still somewhat
charming "Necroshine"). Back when this was new, I
couldn't help but be a little hesitant to pick this up. After all,
"I Hear Black" had been a huge letdown album, and even
though they followed this up with the incredibly strong "W.F.O.",
what were the chances of them trying to mix the two albums together?
As it turns out, instead of W.F.O.-lite, this picks up immediately
where the previous album left off. Filled with outstanding
aggression, trademark killer bass, and Blitz harsh wailing vocals.
Even though this is filled with ruthless, thrashy classics like "Battle",
"God-Like", "Certifiable", "Let
Me Shut That For You", "Bold Face Pagan Stomp",
and "Cold, Hard Fact"...most of these songs are forgotton
in the mix of pre-Horrorscope and modern Overkill
tunes. Go to see these guys live and you might hear one song from
this album. It's unfortunate as this is, with the exception of a
couple fillers, a great album from start to finish. For fans of Overkill's
entire catalog, this has to rank in everybody's top five. Also be sure to read: |
