Yes, The Luttinen is none other than Mika Luttinen (Impaled Nazarene, The Rocking Dildos) lending his astounding vocals to this black metal band (mixed with slight influences of death) from New Brunswick, Canada.  Obviously, a guy like Mika Luttinen isn't just going to contribute his voice to some flash-in-the-pan ensemble.  Hopes should be high for a demo like this, because one's expectations will be met.

The biggest imperfection to this release is the use of a drum machine.  It's a small blemish, however, as it doesn't sound too shoddy with the exception of "Pyövelin Kutsu".  It's one step lower than a heavily triggered drum set, and with Luttinen on vocals and the unforeseen performance of N. Hate and Disease on strings it's hardly noticeable.  This is what black metal aspires to be.  Edgy, dirty, emotional, and furious all wrapped up in one neat package with a spider on top.  Fans of the genre take note...this is first class material.

Song Notes:

  1. Burn Again - Song just explodes onto the CD.  Tight guitar work and gives a good feel for the drumming which isn't too bad for a machine.   B+
  2. Mark Ov The Beast - The sound effects are just enough to add to the song instead of making the song altogether.  Fine use of tempo changes.  B
  3. Pyövelin Kutsu - Change of pace to a more crude black metal feel.  Luttinen's vocals were made for this work, although the drums do not sound nearly as good.  B+
  4. Hatred In The Form Of A Serpent - Technically great song with a strong flavor of death metal, but nothing distinctive compared to the first three songs.  The guitar solo is highly notable.  C+
  5. By Any Means Necessary - Black metal grab bag.  Best song they have, plus the effects conjure an eerie Dr. Who-ish pitch that compliments the music nicely.  A
  6. The Portal - Even though I normally detest intro's and outro's, this is some nice creepy organ music and a perfect way to end.  A-
