Mortician is back with
their sixth full length filled with innovation and complexity!
No...not really. Mortician hasn't changed much since Mortal
Massacre, so one should not be expecting anything new from this
release, either.
The guitar work is completely lost
behind the drumming, while the inhuman low-end vocals can either be too
dominant while a song is chugging along, and then turned to mush when
the song picks up. One thing you can give credit to Mortician
for is over-the-top brutality. Mortician brings it like few
others can, but unfortunately some other important features like
songwriting ability and musicianship are sacrificed in doing so.
Although there are some strong points to Domain Of Death, pass on
it unless you're a die hard Mortician fan. If you're
looking for something from Mortician to quench your occasional
thirst for simple brutality, look into hunting down either Hacked Up
For Barbeque or Chainsaw Dismemberment.
Song Notes:
- Brood Of Evil - A good start to a Mortician album being a slower song
although the vocals stand out too much in the slower parts while the
guitars become completely buried when it turns fast. Welcome
to the world of Mortician, I suppose... B+
- Maimed And Mutilated -
No sample to start with, noisy and unrecognizable brutality, but at
least it's short. C
- Bonecrusher - Starts out
almost exactly like Maimed And Mutilated, but without the
brief guitar work. Typical dirty blast beats, except you can
actually hear the guitar somewhat. C-
- The Hatchet Murders -
Nice sample with an extra slow start. It uses the insanely
fast drumming as filler, but overall a pretty good song. A-
- Extinction Of Mankind -
Short, brutal, and completely forgettable. D
- Domain Of Death - Very
cool sample although a bit long. The bass sound is just plain
annoying and the actual song is long, however at a mid-paced tempo
it's not that bad. C
- Cannibalized - Peppering
inhuman blasts of drumming over typical Mortician
sound. A complete joke. D
- Pulsating Protoplasma -
A Pungent Stench cover. I was actually expecting this
to be a lot worse, but it's still Mortician trying to cover a
good song. D+
- Martin (The Vampire) -
Sample followed by typical brutal Mortician. Nothing
new here. D
- Telepathic Terror -
Off-key sound is sound very nice coming from a band like Mortician,
and hope they make more songs like this one. Unfortunately,
the speed breaks are completely useless. B-
- Mutilation Of The Human Race
- Nothing distinguishable from everything else. F
- Wasteland Of Death -
More crap but with a better riff. D
- Dr. Gore - After that
annoying sample with the organ music, Mortician actually
sounds pretty good. It could also have to do with the fact
this actually resembles a song. B+
- Extra Uterine Pregnancy
- Mortician covering Disastrous Murmur is like a
monkey painting the Mona Lisa with it's own feces. Kudos for
the effort of Mortician bringing a cool song by a great band
into the spotlight, though. D
- Tenebrae - Cool riff at
a good beat with only short bursts of speed. A-
- Devastation - Nothing
special here except the child-like riff. D-
- Necronomicon Exmortia -
Right when you think the song is going along too slow they throw in
that fast Mortician style garbage and completely ruin the
stew. F
