Horatio's Review:
'This album was made to be played FUCKING LOUD!!!!'.  So says the sleeve notes.  I agree with the statement.  If you play this low you might forget it's on, so playing it loud might keep you awake.  Even then I doubt it.  I had some nerve to label Dio's 'Evil Or Divine' the worst live metal album ever, especially when this piece of drivel exists.  I've owned this since its release in 1999 and not once have I listened to it fully.  I knew it was a dud from the opening bars of 'Metal Daze'.  Take all the problems I associated with Dio and apply them to this.  That saves me from having to explain why this is boring beyond compare.  In a move of excess this was Manowar's second live album in two years, the other coming in 1997, 'Hell On Wheels' if I'm not mistaken.  Since then they've also released eight live DVD's, ten more live CD's and a whopping one studio album.

This double CD is a joke.  The songs are more obscure than it's predecessor, but twice as dull.  I'll commit suicide before I listen to a nine minute version of 'Bridge Of Death'.  Manowar pride themselves on being the baddest dudes in metal, yet their live sound is less exciting than Megadeth's.  Eric Adams' banter in between tracks is worse, his robotic delivery suggesting he is addressing an assembly of retarded folk unable to grasp any dialect.  'It... feels... good... to... be... back... with... our... true... brothers... of... metal... here... in... Switzerland'.  He's obviously reading from a cue card in the studio, the clichéd rants too impossible to digest.

The track listing may thrill hardcore fans, but on paper it's diabolical.  I've never been a fan of 'March For Revenge', 'Gates Of Valhalla', 'Guyana (Cult Of The Damned)', 'Blood Of The Kings', 'Sting Of The Bumblebee' or 'Heart Of Steel' so this falls on flat ears.  Plodding and drawn out, it's hard to grasp the fact Manowar consider themselves the loudest band on earth. I can't even remember what albums half these songs are off.  Listening to the crowd talk along with the narration to 'The Warriors Prayer' makes me ill for some reason.  Fanatics or losers?  I admire Manowar for a portion of their catalogue, like Dio, but this whole package is senseless and a waste of the environment's natural resources.  Even a couple of faster tracks, 'Outlaw' and 'The Power' fall flat.  Manowar fail to understand that the success to a live album is by keeping it raw and free of overdubs, and actually deviating from a songs studio progression.  Hey Joey, why don't you:

  1. Throw in a few unexpected passages.

  2. Get a producer who captures the essence of a live show. Not this thin mockery of a job.

  3. Better still, don't make a live album at all.
