The Great Kat - Rossini's Rape

Quick Summary:
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that there are exceptions to every rule and that there are some books you can judge by their covers.  Rossini's Rape is a perfect example.  What you see on the cover is what you get in musical form...less than seven minutes of furious guitars, flailing violins, technicality, bizarre song writing, and all out S&M psychobitch pain.  Two takes of classical vs. two takes of metal.

So is this fleeting little piece of work worth the price of admission?  In short...yes.  This is hyperspeed at it's hyperspeediest topped off with a creative glance into the noggin of one of the most unique people to walk the planet.  Be warned, though, the production is far from okay, the lyrics sound like they were penned in less time than the actual song lengths, and many of the instruments are in MIDI form.  Actually, the MIDI isn't so bad except for a few things like the MIDI gong and the MIDI triangle, for example.  So if you can look past it's shortcomings, be prepared for a distinctive yet utterly distasteful listening experience.

Song Summaries:

  1. Rossini's "William Tell Overture" for Symphony Orchestra & Band - The orchestration being composed mainly of MIDI with the exception of the violins, viola, piccolo, flute, trumpets, and trombones, is laughably horrible in sound.  Can't help but admire the pure musicianship of this cover and the amazingly thick tone.  B-
  2. Sodomize - Even though the lyrics make Chris Barnes look like Edgar Allen Poe, this is a short exercise in frenzied chaos.  B+
  3. Castration - Paper thin sound, but as can be expected the guitar work is top notch.  Highly addictive even flawed, and a shame this only weighs in at 1:12.  A-
  4. Bazzini's "The Round Of The Goblins" for Violin, Piano, and Band - That hyperspeed violin sounds phenomenal, although the song lacks the chaotic charm of The Great Kat's version of Rossini.  Impressive talent, but I never was fond of Bazzini in the first place.  Eh...  C+
