Shev's Review:
Following-up one of the strongest "comeback albums" of all time, 2001's
Violence Has Arrived, GWAR has apparently learned a thing or two in their three year hiatus.
What Violence Has Arrived lacked in overall character and charisma,
War Party more than makes up for. GWAR already knew what they wanted to play, but it wasn't until now that they have found their groove, making a very comfortable, flowing album.
Notorious for also churning out filler, War Party aims to please as this is the first album since
America Must Be Destroyed where every single song on it is a quality tune.
For those that loved Violence Has Arrived, but felt a little turned off by it's overall generic sound and lack of flow,
War Party is basically an extension of their new sound...but much more refined.
When it comes right down to it, with the exception of the cover actually being worse than the
Carnival Of Chaos cover and a slight metalcore aftertaste on a few songs,
War Party absolutely smokes Violence Has Arrived in every possible way.
Heavy, memorable, musically admirable, and downright sick. This goes down as one of
GWAR's best.
