Uncle Meat's Review:
There’s a certain calming effect that spinning GWAR has on me.  GWAR takes me back to a simpler time, when I didn’t have all of the crushing responsibilities of adulthood.  Although GWAR has changed their sound over the years, sometimes dramatically, they have always been a constant presence for yours truly.

Anyway, Scumdogs Of The Universe, the album.  This is was my first listening experience with the juggernaut know as GWAR (for some extra fun, my first exposure to GWAR was an article in Thrasher).  I fast forwarded (damn you, cassettes) to Slaughterama because a friend told me what a killer song it was.  And to this day it is my favorite GWAR song.  To these ears it is the perfect blend of over-the-top hysteria (the actual lyrics and delivery seem to me like an old Gong Show episode) and semi-thrash music.

The album has several stand out tracks:  The Salaminizer, which I’m still wasting to sing Karaoke, Vlad The Impaler and Sexecutioner.  The only really awful tracks are Maggots and Sick of You (made even worse by the shitty video).  One has to wonder why theses tacks are third and second, respectively, on the running order.

Some strange musical moments crop up, bagpipes at the opening of Horror Of Yig and the dance-inducing opening of Black And Huge.  Aside form that the album ranges from fast to more mid-paced thrash type music.

Recommended if you love freedom.
