Fantômas - Suspended
Animation Track
Listing: Line-Up: Website: www.ipecac.com Lamp's Rating: A+ |
Lamp's Review: The general feel of Suspended Animation is pretty stilted. You could put all these songs on one track and be unable to tell the difference. There are many stops and samples of some of the most bizarre things you could ever hope to hear in a musical release. Mike Patton is the only person I know who could take the sounds of children's toys and make them sound creepy. The old Spin and Speak things, toys where you push a button and it will say a letter, bike horns, you name it, it's probably in this recording. Samples from old cartoons (think Looney Tunes) are also abundant throughout the album. Samples of children playing clapping games over tribal music, old carnival music, everything. It is all placed within and around the surrounding metal outbursts and sheer insanity noises of Mike Patton. His screeches and other various vocal antics are peppered throughout the album. This is truly the work of a madman. Even the packaging of Suspended Animation
is amazing. The CD booklet is set up like a mini calendar/notebook giving information about each day
in April as to what holidays are celebrated on each day and in what countries accompanied by a drawing
for each day. I have never heard or seen anything like this in my life.
If you thought anything Mr. Bungle did was scary, you'll be downright
terrified with this album. You have to hear it to believe it. Also be sure to read: |
