Uncle Meat's Review:
Man, what an unexpected knockout. I had pretty much given up on
Entombed after Wolverine Blues. I had my Clandestine and my
Left Hand Path (orange vinyl, baby) but I never felt the need to listen
to, let alone purchase, any of their latter albums (although I must admit that I own the self titled and a few
singles). I had grown tired of the whole death-'n-roll genre and was looking for something new.
What possessed me to pick up Morning Star, I'll never know. But I am a happier person today because I did.
Not only have Entombed made a good move by absorbing Slayer in their prime, but they made the decision against having half-baked songs.
Some of the songs hearken back to a simpler Entombed time (Bringer of
Light, Fractures) while some songs just aren't any good (When
It Hits Home). All-in-all a worthwhile effort, and gives me hope for the next album.
