Horatio's Review:
Perhaps a better title for this CD could have been used instead of an oxymoron, although to be serious these are probably considered classics of the genre to fans, although a few of the acts featured were past their death metal origins with their featured tracks here.
For one is Sepultura and 'Inner Self' from 1989's 'Beneath The
Remains', one of thrash's 80's masterpieces. Death had long since abandoned death metal by 1995's
'Zero Tolerance', a fine piece none the less, a track leaning towards traditional metal.
Aside from that it's vintage death metal all the way, the likes of Deicide,
Suffocation, Immolation, Malevolent Creation, Disincarnate and
Obituary all featured at the height of their late 80's - early 90's peaks.
Brujeria's 'La Ley De Plomo' is pure rot as is Cynic's dull
'Veil Of Maya', particularly the hack robotic voiceover. Hit and miss collection, but good for a laugh, especially for old
time's sake. One thing is obvious, listening to Deicide's 'Dead By
Dawn' and Obituary's 'Slowly We Rot', it's clear why they were
considered superior. The others seem crude by comparison, especially in musical terms and production.
