Shevy's Review:  Putting just a tad less emphasis on blues, Danzig's third full-length comes across as a much more mellow and gothic release not quite providing the diversity seen on Lucifuge.  In it's place, Danzig has really come a long way with his voice, tapping it for whatever it's worth, while musically this is probably John Christ's best work, blending simplistic technicality with memorable heavy riffs.  Not quite the up-tempo metal release I would have liked, but tunes such as the powerfully stark "Dirty Black Summer" and the emphatic "Left Hand Black" seem to fill that void nicely.  More attention seems to have been paid to their moodier songs such as "How The Gods Kill", "Heart Of The Devil", and "Sistinas".  Overall a very good release from Danzig, and quite honestly, his last release that can be categorized as "essential".
