Shev's Review:
Released only a year after "The Carnival Bizarre", Cathedral's "Supernatural Birth Machine" has a tough act to follow seeing as "The Carnival Bizarre" was hand's down one of the most adroit and unblemished doom albums ever made.  Even though it's generally accepted that this plays second fiddle, it's pretty much cut from the same cloth as "The Carnival Bizarre".  Same monumental doomy style, although the songs lack the luminescence heard from it's predecessor.  Granted, there are some classic songs on here like "Urko's Conquest", "Stained Glass Horizon", "Fireball Demon", and "Magnetic Hole"...but for the most part this is almost a lighthearted, inclusively generic version of "The Carnival Bizarre".  So while it doesn't live up to one's expectations, "Supernatural Birth Machine" can hardly be called a letdown and is highly recommended to those in need of some of the best Black Sabbath-inspired doom to grace this planet.
