Skin Splitter's Review:
Due to my extra free time and my ravenous addiction for the soft touch
of a woman's flesh, I decided to clean up my hole of a room and in which case I discovered this old beauty.
I forgot I even bought this, but I do remember that there was a little movie called
"Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" that got me searching for this band and the song they played.
When I opened the case and read the song titles, I immediately started laughing.
I thought it was a joke band with joke lyrics and that they were not going to last very long.
Well, was I ever wrong! When I popped this puppy into the CD player, it was a pleasant
surprise. I had heard a lot of metal in my days up to this point, but this CD was the one
to open my eyes and realize that there was something out there that I had not experienced that was more brutal, dark, and brooding than
anything I had heard before. And I loved every second of it. This is a must
have for any Cannibal Corpse fan.
The first thing that I noticed now as opposed to then is that this
album seems tame compared to anything past the year 2000, but it is still a great album to listen to and hear earlier recordings of what
Cannibal Corpse was and who they would become. As usual, production value of this is a little poor and Chris Barnes
still sounds like a chainsaw stuck in an antelope's ass, but that's really
unimportant compared to the musicianship crafted on this CD. It would
be hard to pick out the good or the bad tracks on this one because, well,
they're all pretty damn good. I do suggest staying with the classic songs such as
"Hammer Smashed Face", "I Cum Blood", and
"Addicted to Vaginal Skin", but even my least favorite song on the album
("Post Mortal Ejaculation") is still pretty decent.
