Horatio's Review:
A controversial album for Sabbath as Dio was replaced by then ex-Deep
Purple legend Gillan, resulting in a furor amongst Sabbath
fans. Reviled by all upon release, it appears most now consider it a
classic and rightfully so. With Gillan how could they go
wrong? Out the window went much of the mystical elements and in were
Gillan's double entendre laden lyrics. This culminated in classic
after classic, including 'Trashed', 'Disturbing The Priest',
'Digital Bitch', 'Hot Line' and 'Disturbing The Priest',
all tremendous melodic heavy metal, with Iommi's guitar work preserving
much of Sabbath's sound. The production was weak however and
led to accusations of tampering, and coupled with a failed tour led to
Gillan's exit. Essential regardless, this captures Gillan and Sabbath
at their best. It's better than 'Sweet Leaf', let's face it.
