Shev's Review:
Death metal used to be such a great genre, but was eventually over saturated with everybody trying to be more brutal than the next guy.  Musicianship and song writing ability were sacrificed for speed and brutality.  There are only a few bands that can pull off being an interesting brutal death metal outfit these days.  Luckily, Bane Of Existence (previously known as Dismalbio) out of  Massachusetts is one of those bands.

Even though they have a sound all their own, they also have this strong mix of Coffin Texts meets Dying Fetus meets Disgorge with a hint of grindcore thrown in for good measure.  The drumming is everything it should be and then some, the guitar is spot-on ferocious, and the bass is used amazingly well for a death metal band.  Unfortunately, after this release Randy left the band, and he's going to leave a huge void to be filled.  The only weak point to this line-up is the vocals, which although they are good a low/mid-ranged growl peppered with some high screams, they sound a little unconfident.  It's a very small blemish from a very good release from this unsigned band.  Tight, refreshing, and energetic...fans of the genre must hunt this down.

Song summaries include...

  1. Denounced - Great intro to start a release of this caliber.  The drumming in this is sick, with well placed blast beats that are not overused.  A
  2. Art Of Fisting - Not your typical "br00tal death", but this really should have been longer.  A-
  3. Evisceration - A little on the generic side, but it has some really solid flares.  Sounds like controlled chaos, and the ending is just plain eerie.  C+
  4. Iconoclast - Another great intro.  I usually hate songs that start out blazingly fast just to set-up a slow/mid-paced song, but this is great overall with some impressive tempo changes.  B+
  5. Cankerous - The drumming could make an epileptic go into a seizure.  Highly annoying guitar squeals, but a good song to end with overall.  B
