Shev's Review:
Man, 1349 really need to slow down when it comes to pumping out full-length albums.  Awesome that they have the initiative to crank out all this music in a short period of time, but in all honesty I would rather wait five years to hear something just as good as "Liberation" than have them blast out one album a year and come up with something like this.  Regardless of their obviously strong work ethic, "Hellfire" is better than "Beyond The Apocalypse"...but not by a whole lot.

Much like "Beyond The Apocalypse", I liked "Hellfire" on the first few spins through.  It's some pretty furious black metal with a few other nods to thrash with atmosphere used here and there, but the problem is the fact it just doesn't age very well.  Frost on drums is absolutely pulverizing as usual, but just like every other band that will use an awesome drummer to cover up some otherwise generic music, it gets old quick.  Great drumming is nice, but it can't hold a band up for the long haul.  On the plus side, "Hellfire" does take a few strides for improvement over "Beyond The Apocalypse", for instance the more thoughtful workmanship put into the guitars and the fact that "I Am Abomination" is the best thing they've done in the past couple years, but it's nothing that's really going to make a huge difference.  One might get a few more days of enjoyment out of it, unless you really like their previous album in which case this is pretty much an improvement over "more of the same".

And I think that's my downfall with 1349.  I want them to do another full-length as awesome as "Liberation".  Someday I might realize that it's never going to happen and possibly enjoy this album of generic black metal fluff.  Until that time, I can only recommend this pasty, flavorless shell to people who like a whole lot of mindless speed with their Satan.
